SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Feb 19 –
Joseph "JoJo" Davila is
detained on Federal narcotics
charges. But he is having
problems meeting with his
lawyer.
On February 18, U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Lewis J. Liman held an
in-person proceeding. Inner
City Press covered it.
Davila was
brought in wearing a yellow
prison jump-suit, and turned
and waved at the gallery. His
lawyer asked that he be moved
to the Metropolitan Detention
Center in Brooklyn to more
easily allow visits.
The
Assistant US Attorney said he
couldn't get it done, only in
cases of the need for safety
of a detainee (like a
cooperators, or due to gang
fights).
Judge Liman
said he wouldn't order it, but
he would encourage it.
The case is US v.
Davila, 21-cr-606 (Liman)
