SDNY COURTHOUSE,
July 10 – New Constellis
Holdings sued the National
Bank of Pakistan for not
paying back $700,000 it held
in security for business in
Afghanistan.
On July 8,
2022 U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge Gregory H. Woods
held a proceeding. Inner City
Press covered it.
The defendant
said there is no jurisdiction,
it is a government bank in
Pakistan. The plaintiff began
talk about how the Taliban
takeover made it difficult for
US firms to sue there.
Judge Woods
said he reads the newspapers
but bases his rulings off of
the record, he would not take
judicial notice of what was
said of the Taliban. He stayed
discovery pending a motion to
dismiss by July 29.
He inquired into
settlement; the defense said
there are unique issues for a
state owned bank.
The case is New
Constellis Holdings, Inc. v.
National Bank of Pakistan,
22-cv-632 (Woods)
