SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 26 – Often Federal court
supervisees appear in a supine
position, questioned by judges
about why they aren't working.
That was not the case on May
for Jafari Fray, who described
selling hoodies and caps under
his and a business partner's
"Alone in France" line, on
Instagram and elsewhere.
His
work for a pawnshop has
slowed, given that pawnshops
were not deemed essential
businesses. Cases pending in
Mount Vernon, it was said,
won't be heard or progress
until after the summer, also
due to COVID-19.
U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Richard M. Berman, who
is studying the efficacy of
his approach, congratulated
Fray for his hard work, and
set the next conference for
September.
Fray
replied that it might be
chilly by then, allow
increased sales of his
hoodies. The case is US v.
Fray, 06-cr-494 (Berman)
