SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 18 – Raymond Reid Collins,
formerly of CNBC, was being
sentenced for child porn on
May 18. Inner City Press
covered it, and heard that the
sealed pre-sentencing report
said tip was from CNBC,
"Reid's employer" - but in
fact it was from DropBox.
The Assistant US Attorney was
asking for a below guidelines
sentence.
The Complaint said Collins
signed up for the DropBox
account as "Reid Collins" at
"Company-1 in New York New
York - now identified as CNBC.
Found were 2100 files
"involving infants and
toddlers."
Now defense counsel Ed
Bilinkas said Collins has
asthma, that his client has
lost his well paying job (at
CNBC) and may lose his house.
"This case occurred two years
before law enforcement became
aware." Again, his
sentencing memo has been filed
under seal. Inner City
Press is considering
challenging that, unless it is
unredacted.
Collins said, "I will never,
even come back to
prison."
Judge Nathan said that while
the guidelines range started
at 78 months, she intended to
go substantially below, as the
US Attorney suggested. She
said, He is unlikely to
recidivate... He stopped well
before law enforcement found
out. The Second Circuit has
said sentences must be
individualized. In this case,
I impose 18 months
imprisonment and five years of
supervised release.
The case is US v.
Collins, 19-cr-665 (Nathan).
