SDNY COURTHOUSE,
June 5 – Rachel Weingeist
opened an office for Tropix
Media in Union Square but was
fired. The company moved to
Fort Lee, New Jersey and
stiffed her on her final
months' pay.
When she sued,
her lawyer served the doorman
of Tropix' head man. On June 4
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Edgardo Ramos questioned
the service of process. Inner
City Press covered it.
Weingeist's lawyer described
the girlfriend relationship of
Tropix' chief, with his CFO.
Judge Ramos said that doesn't
make service on a doorman
sufficient.
The lawyer
pushed back, saying that was
how "the Court" told him to
serve. Judge Ramos
disagreed. Now it
will be re-served, and the
plaintiff will have ot make
another application to appeal.
The case is
Weingeist v. Tropix Media and
Entertainment, et al.,
20-cv-275 (Ramos).
