SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Feb 6 – As alleged it was a
simple scheme: Milesh Talreja
deposited a check for $500,000
written on an account with
only $5,608.99 in it, then
proceeded to withdraw the
money over the court of a week
in November 2019.
On
February 5 Talreja was
presented near the end of a en
evening session before U.S.
District Court for Southern
District of New York
Magistrate Judge Sarah
Netburn.
In the
nearly empty gallery along
with Inner City Press was what
turned out to be Talreja's
retained counsel, Alisha
McCarthy. She consented to
detention without prejudice to
a later application for
release on bail.
On February 6 the case became
unsealed and listed, among the
withdrawals, three
international wire transfers.
The case is US v. Talreja,
20-mj-983 (Netburn).
