SDNY COURTHOUSE,
August 29 – Victor
Rivera-Quinones was arrested
while trying to pick up what
he thought was 20 pounds of
cocaine. He was detained
pending trial, but then again
sought released on bond.
On August
26, 2022 U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge Gregory H.
Woods held an in-person
proceeding. Inner City Press
went and covered it.
Defense counsel began to speak
about plea negotiations with
Assistant US Attorney Brandon
Harper. Judge Woods said he
does not get involved in, and
does not want to hear the
specifics of, plea
negotiations.
Judge
Woods said he had reviewed the
transcript of Rivera-Quinones'
detention hearing before
Magistrate Judge Gabriel W.
Gorenstein. In that, an
argument was made that a gun
in the Bronx has been in a car
with many other individuals.
Judge
Gorenstein then said, "this is
not helping, he pled guilty to
criminal possession of a
loaded firearm, that's the end
of it."
On August
26, Judge Woods against denied
release, calling
Rivera-Quinones at 47 a mature
man but the crime very
serious.
The case is US v.
Rivera-Quinones, 21-cr-797
(Woods)
