SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 29 – Andre Williams was
sentenced on May 29 as a
"Felon in Possession" of a
gun, which was described in
the Complaint as a Colt
semi-automatic .25 auto
caliber pistol.
Williams
has been in the MCC jail
during the COVID-19 lockdown.
The proceeding was held by
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Ronnie Abrams and Inner
City Press covered it.
The
Assistant US Attorney was
seeking a sentence of 15 to 21
months.
Williams' lawyer, with an
office in 7 World Trade
Center, urged instead Time
Served. He said Williams has
been "locked in his cell for
165 hours of each 168 hour
week."
Judge
Ronnie Abrams said, at least
as live tweeted by Inner City
Press, "Mr. Williams, I view
this as a serious crime. Here,
you took a loaded firearm into
a bodega in broad daylight,
people called police and you
attempted to flee. You're 39
and you have 11 convictions
and numerous orders of
protection...
"I've considered
the harsh conditions in the
MCC. I've read the letter from
your sister. You are committed
to Bureau of Prisons for 15
months, three years of
supervised release. I really
considered going with
Probation on high end of
guidelines....
But I
considered the conditions in
the MCC. So I went with the
lower end of the guidelines.
But if you break the law again
I won't hesitate to send you
back to prison."
The case is US v.
Williams, 19-cr-00782
(Abrams).
