SDNY COURTHOUSE,
March 16 -- A defendant
accused of shooting a victim
twice in the street on January
25after a rap performance was
ordered free on bond on March
16 by U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Magistrate Judge Stewart
D. Aaron.
The Assistant US
Attorney argued that a video
showed defendant Putnam
shooting the victim twice then
getting into a vehicle he was
later arrested in.
But
Judge Aaron asked, Have you
seen the video? The answer was
No - but will you detain the
defendant one or two days
until we can show you the
video?
After a break,
Judge Aaron ordered Putnam,
whose wife was in the gallery
where Inner City Press was the
only media, freed on $25,000
bond. For now his travel is
limited to the SDNY and EDNY.
But since he is a truck
driver, Judge Aaron said, he
can ask for a loosening of
conditions from Pre Trial
Services. The case is US v.
Putnam, 20-mj-2092 (Aaron).
