SDNY COURTHOUSE,
March 17 --
Edinuel Rodriguez Polanco was
the subject of an arrest
warrant for narcotics
distribution signed on March
16 by U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Magistrate Judge Stewart
D. Aaron.
On March 17 he
was presented in shackles
before Judge Aaron, with a
half dozen family members in
the gallery along with Inner
City Press.
His lawyer argued that
Rodriguez Polanco has no
criminal record.
The Assistant US
Attorney countered that he had
been arrested in 2010 in the
Dominican Republic, and he
refused to tell Pre Trial
Services where he in fact
comes from.
While his lawyer
argued that refusal to speak
to Pre Trial Services should
not be held against a
defendant, Judge Aaron ordered
Rodriguez Polanco detained,
saying that fentanyl and
heroin are serious dangers
while explicitly putting no
weight on the murky 2010
Dominican arrest.
The case is US v.
Rodriguez Polanco, 20-mj- 2960
(Aaron).
