SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Nov 14 – The Federal Election
Commission sued Chalin M.
Askew and his
LatPAC.
On November 12, U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Magistrate Judge Stuart D.
Aaron held a proceeding. Inner
City Press covered it.
Askew did
not show up, and no lawyer has
put in an appearance for
LatPAC.
Judge
Aaron noted that corporation
must have a lawyer, and asked
the FEC attorney if a PAC is a
corporation for this purpose.
The answer
appears to be yes. An order to
show cause, Judge Aaron said,
will issue with a default
looming.
The FEC
lawyer added that Askew's
answer had in fact been to
their proposed settlement, and
not the complaint. Judge Aaron
said that would have to be
addressed too.
The case is
Federal Election Commission v.
LatPAC et al., 21-cv-6095
(Carter / Aaron)
