SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 9 –
Filipino businessman Jorge
Leon "Nene" Araneta and his
wife Stella Araneta, described
as a beauty queen from
Colombia, sued JPMorgan Chase
Bank for having sold the
contents of their safety
deposit box at
auction.
On May 9,
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald
held a proceeding. Inner City
Press covered it.
Judge Buchwald
said she had Googled the
Araneta and saw that they were
accomplished. Their lawyer
said Jorge Araneta has more
resources that him or his
partner.
Judge Buchwald
asked if Chase had given
notice. It had sent a letter,
she was told, but to its own
post office box in Baton
Rouge, Louisiana.
The case is
Araneta et al v. JPMorgan
Chase Bank, N.A., 22-cv-2346
(Buchwald)
