SDNY COURTHOUSE,
June 4 – Jose Coste was
accused of fraudulently
obtaining money from the
Emergency Witness Assistance
Program.
On November 24,
2020 U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge Laura Taylor Swain
held a proceeding. Inner City
Press covered it.
As his CJA
counsel Coste has gotten Akin
Gump, whose representative
said there are discussions
toward a disposition.
Judge Swain set
the next conference for
January 21 - and Inner City
Press covered this as well.
Coste's
lawyer said it has been hard
to communicate, but that she
did not think the attorney
client relationship has broken
down.
On June 4, now
Chief Judge Swain held a
change of plea proceeding.
Coste pleaded guilty; his
lawyer said she was no longer
seeking to modify conditions
of release.
Coste is in
custody. The plea agreement
says the sentencing guideline
is six to 12 months. Judge
Swain agreed to expedite
sentencing to July 27 at 11
am.
The case is US v.
Coste, 20-cr-462 (Swain)
