CitiField Cook Laid Off Amid COVID Pleads Guilty in SDNY To Be Released Masked Feb 17

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Feb 16 – Kenyatta Brown was on supervised release with the COVID-19 pandemic reached New York. He had been working at CitiField in Queens as a cook, and elsewhere at restaurant.

Amid lock-downs he lost both jobs and soon, violating supervision, he was in jail.

On February 16, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Andrew L. Carter held a change of plea and sentencing proceeding. Inner City Press covered it.

Brown pleaded guilty to Specification 5, leaving Odysee House.

Talk turned to a time served sentence. But Judge Carter, as he has before, showed detailed concern for how and to whom Brown would be released.

It was explained that, from Unemployment, Brown has the cash to rent a room for $100 a night until the in-patient drug treatment spot opens up.

He can call a cab or Uber to pick him up at Essex County Correctional Facility. He said they will give him a mask and other PPE.

Judge Carter said Brown should be released on February 17, with one year of supervision.

The case is US v. Brown, 20-cr-307 (Carter)
