SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Aug 4 – Enrique Felix was
serving a 129 month prison
sentence when he says he was
assaulted by a Bureau of
Prisons Corrections Officer.
The US Attorney
Office, on the other hand,
says that Felix "punched a
correctional officer in the
face, threw liquid on him and
threatened to kill him" - then
they offered a deal to plead
guilty to misdemeanor
assault.
On
August 4 U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge Edgardo Ramos
held a sentencing. Inner City
Press covered
it.
Assistant US Attorney Ryan B.
Finkel, whose sentencing memo
was full of redactions, argued
for 12 months, the maximum
sentence for a misdemeanor.
Felix read to
Judge Ramos a statement about
his side of the story.
Judge Ramos
was moved - he made his
sentence, technically 12
months, concurrent such that
it ends in December. He
recounted Felix' childhood,
and some new found hope.
The case is US v.
Felix, 19-cr-260 (Ramos).
