SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Oct 7 – On charges of child
pornography and not
registering as a sex offender,
Darnell Feagins was arraigned
and pleaded not guilty on
October 7 before U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Chief
Magistrate Judge Gabriel W.
Gorenstein. Inner City Press
covered it.
There was a
preliminary issue. Judge
Gorenstein asked Feagin, Do
you recognize me? That we
played handball together years
ago on 4th Avenue in
Brooklyn?
Judge
Gorenstein said once he
realized the possible conflict
of interest, he reached out to
defense counsel and asked if
it was OK to go forward rather
than try to find another
Magistrate.
Since Feagins was
consenting to detention,
leaving no discretion for a
judge, it was deemed
acceptable.
Feagins
pleaded not guilty. His
Violations of Supervised
Release are assigned to Second
Circuit Court of Appeals Judge
Richard J. Sullivan; the new
failure to register indictment
is assigned to SDNY District
Judge William H. Pauley III.
Speedy Trial Act time was
excluded through November 6.
The case are US
v. Feagins, 17-cr-377
(Sullivan) / 20-cr-218
(Pauley).
