SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Jan 7 – Kayann Walker was
charged with stealing postal
money orders.
On January 6,
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein
held a change of plea
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
Judge Hellerstein
asked about the specifics of
how the money orders were
stolen and where they were
cashed - in the post office -
then was asked by Walker's
Federal Defender to put off
sentencing until after Walker
give birth in July.
There
followed some questions about
how the Bureau of Prisons
handles pregnant detainees. In
a halfway house, was the
answer.
Judge Hellerstein
left the sentencing on for
April, but asked the Federal
Defender to raise the issue
again. He established that the
defendant's name, wrong in
PACER, is Kayann Petergay
Walker.
The case is US v.
Walker, 19-cr-929
(Hellerstein)
