SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Sept 15 – Efe Opuoro was
charged with bank fraud in
2016. Now on supervised
release, he was arrested and
detained in the District of
Rhode Island. But he "refused
to attend and participate in
removal proceedings"
there.
On September 15
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Alison J. Nathan held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered
it.
A conflict issue
had arisen, so alongside
defense attorney Sean Hecker,
on duty CJA lawyer Renato
Stabile (previously shadow
counsel to man who went to
trial pro se) was present.
Judge
Nathan, noting that the
defendant is now in Essex
County Jail, recommended some
mental evaluation and
treatment and set another
proceeding for September 29.
The case is US v.
Opuoro, 16-cr-148
(Nathan)
