SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Jan 9 – Jonathan Read was out
on supervised release when,
coming to a life skills class
in the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York courthouse at 500 Pearl
Street on August 15, 2017
while carrying marijuana, he
ran through the security area
and pushed his way out.
He remained at
large for two days. He was
sentenced to 18 months.
After that,
he again violated supervised
release, and went on the lam
for months. On January 8,
Judge Richard J. Sullivan held
a sentencing. Inner City Press
covered it.
Read's
Federal Defender said he had
panicked; Judge Sullivan said
that would not explain the
full eight months.
Read spoke for
himself, and movingly, asking
for another chance and
describing getting out of his
cell only three times a
week.
Judge
Sullivan said he could go up
to 18 months, or the year and
a day Probation suggested.
Instead he imposed 15 months,
and no supervised release
after that. He wished Read
well.
The case is US v.
Read, 14-cr-775 (Sullivan)
