SDNY MAG COURT,
July 6 – In the Magistrates
Court of the U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York on July
6, co-defendants Marlon Watson
and Skakur Culbert were
presented back to back, both
in yellow overalls from the
Essex County jail. The results
were different.
Both are
part of a multi-defendant
Bronx drugs and gun case.
Watson was ordered released on
$100,000 bond with two
co-signed, both of whom were
in the socially distanced
gallery of the Magistrates
Court.
Shortly
afterward co-defendant Shakur
Culbert was let in. But the
Assistant US Attorney cited
his Facebook photos with guns,
and messages about strapping,
and sneaking a miniature cell
phone into the Essex jail.
Magistrate Judge James L.
Cott, after a brief recess
with Pre-Trial Services,
ordered Culbert detained.
Both,
however, will have a chance to
argue for a reversal of detention,
or loosening of conditions.

The overall case
is US v. Charles, et al.,
21-cr-412 (Rakoff / Cott)
