SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Oct 1 – Levanger Belcher
was convicted in 1997 of
defauding hotels by posing as
an official and directing that
bills be sent to his
"employers."
He got 18 months
in jail after which, while on
supervised release, he
absconded.
He was caught in 2010, got
five months and one year of
supervised release - during
which he absconded
again.
On October 1 U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Alison J. Nathan held a
sentencing proceeding. Belcher
did not have a phone capable
of a video conference, so it
was phone-only. Inner City
Press called in.
He had
already spend 35 days in jail
on this most recent arrest. He
said he is "sity or sixty one
years old, I'm not sure."
Judge Nathan said that 35 days
were enough, sentencing him to
time served and no more
supervised release.
The case is, or
was, US v. Belcher, 96-cr-789
(Nathan)
