SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Nov 21 – A defendant pled not
guilty to murdering Nelson
Ramos near 800 Soundview
Avenue in the Bronx earlier
this year, before U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Jesse M. Furman on
November 21.
The case
is death penalty eligible.
Judge
Furman asked assigned CJA
lawyer Florian Miedel if he
has explored getting so called
"learned counsel" for his
client Marquis Yohanis. Some
steps or calls have been made;
meanwhile the Department of
Justice has begun its capital
review.
For that
reason Judge Furman said he
anticipated postponing a
December 9 pre-trial
conference, until the
applicability of the
possibility of the death
penalty to Yohanis and his
co-defendants is made clear by
the Justice Department.
Back on
November 12 Yohanis was
presented in the SDNY
Magistrates Court, also with
Inner City Press the only
media in the courtroom
Yohanis was told by Magistrate
Judge Katharine H. Parker that
he is subject to "special
findings" with regard to
Counts 6 and 7 of the
indictment. After some
research, Inner City Press
found Sealed Superseding
Indictment S2, which recounts
in mere legalese the
underlying death. We'll have
more on this. The case is US
v. Yohanis, 19-cr-625
(Furman).
