SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Jan 10 – A woman from Norway
is in US Federal custody
charged with threatening a US
judge. Inner City Press was in
the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Magistrates Court late on
January 9 when, as the last
case, Dana Marie Eiden was
brought into the courtroom in
shackles.
It was explained that there
are two cases against her, one
now involving "civil contempt"
and a second one, still not
even listed in the PACER court
system database, for
threatening the judge.
The civil
case began in 2018 before
then-District Judge Richard J.
Sullivan. Per Magne Eiden
asserted that Dana Marie Eiden
had kept their children in the
US against his well, and
allegedly against the Hague
Convention.
Flash-forward to late 2019,
and Per Magne's lawyers at
Gourvitz & Gourvitz ("We
Think Outside The Box") were
urging now Circuit Judge
Sullivan to "issue an
immediate arrest warrant for
Ms. Eidem." Apparently they
prevail: Ms. Eiden is locked
up, now also with a criminal
case for threatening a judge.
Ms. Eiden's Federal Defender
declined on January 9 to make
a bail argument, instead
asking to re-appear before
Magistrate Judge Debra Freeman
on January 10 after 4:30 pm
proceeding before Judge
Sullivan, noticed to be in
Courtroom 15C which has
already been assigned to new
Judge Lewis J. Liman.
On January
10 the civil case was moved up
to 2 pm. Inner City Press
went: Ms. Eiden was brought
out in shackles. Mr. Eiden's
lawyers called in and said Mr
Eiden and the children have
flown back to Norway. Judge
Sullivan vacated the civil
contempt order - but Ms. Eidem
is still locked up, pending a
bail proceeding before
Magistrate Judge Freeman.
Inner City Press will continue
to cover both cases - and the
new judge. More on Patreon here.
