SDNY COURTHOUSE,
July 2 – After the death
of Jeffrey Epstein in the MCC
prison, on July 2 Acting US
Attorney for the Southern
District of New York Audrey
Strauss announced and unsealed
in indictment of Maxwell on
charges including sex
trafficking and perjury.
Inner City Press went to her
press conference at the US
Attorney's Office and asked,
Doesn't charging Maxwell with
perjury undercut any ability
to use testimony from her
against other, bigger
wrong-doers? Periscope here
at 23:07.
Strauss
replied that it is not
impossible to use a perjurer's
testimony. But how often does
it work?
At 3:30 pm
Maxwell appeared in the U.S.
District Court for the
District of New Hampsire,
before Magistriate Judge Andrea
K. Johnstone.
Inner City
Press live
tweeted,
with a bit of
analysis and
snark during
the lulls:
SDNY AUSA Alison
Moe's detention memo on risk
of flight says "she has
engaged in frequent
international travel,
including at least 15
international flights in the
last 3 years to locations
including the UK, Japan &
Qatar." Also on the Maxwell
detention memo: Assistant US
Attorneys Alex Rossmiller
and... Maurene Comey.
For Ghislaine
Maxwell, a Mr. Vogelman.
Judge Johnstone:
"Ms Maxwell is participating
from the facility she is in. I
am in the courthouse, but not
in the courtroom.... Ms.
Maxwell, If at any time you
want to interrupt, please do."
The detention
memo says, "Maxwell has 3
passports, large sums of
money, international
connections, and no reason to
stay in the US."
Judge Johnstone:
Ms Maxwell, you are not
required to make any
statements in this matter.
Anything you say may be used
against you. If you can't
afford your own attorney, the
court will.
Judge Johnstone:
You are charged with sex
trafficking, conspiracy,
enticement of a minor, and
perjury. [Why did they charge
her with that, since it
undermines possibility of her
naming &testifying against
co-conspirators? Inner City
Press asked and will continue]
Judge Johnstone:
She is waiving an identity
hearing, and a detention
hearing in NH District,
subject to being held in the
SDNY. Correct?
Maxwell: Yes, I
am.
Judge Johnstone:
Mr. Vogelman, you'll follow up
with paperwork? Vogelman:
Including my notice of
appearance.
Judge Johnstone:
I will order that you be
transported to the charging
district for the hearings.
When? Watch this
site, and this
feed.
The case
is US v. Maxwell, 20-cr-330
(Nathan).
