SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 27 – Ana Mendieta
was a Cuban American artist
who died in New York in 1985
at the age of 36. Her husband
Carl Andre was charged with
second degree murder for
pushing her from the 34th
floor window of their
Greenwich Village apartment.
(He was acquitted in
1988).
Ana
Mendieta's work "Guanaroca" is
now the subject of litigation
before U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil,
who held a conference on May
27. Inner City Press covered
it.
Both sides
agreed that it was impossible
due to COVID-19 to get the
requisite records from the NY
Surrogates Court. The Estate
of Ana Mendieta Collection,
LCC said they want the cloud
on title removed, in case
someone looks into the docket
(as Inner City Press
has).
Edward
Meringolo, with Sotheby's
already dismissed, appeared to
agree to this.
The case is The
Estate of Ana Mendieta
Collection, LLC v. Sotheby's,
Inc. et al., 20-cv-1841
(Vyskocil).
