SDNY COURTROOM
Exclusive, Sept 20 –
In the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York on September 17, a
detention hearing was held by
Magistrate Judge Ona T. Wang
on defendant Albert Ortiz,
arrested with 68 bundles of
heroin in his apartment.
Ortiz'
lawyer said this was because
Ortiz is an addict, who sells
to feed his habit. But Judge
Wang wondered how bailing
Ortiz out to the same
apartment would not present a
danger.
She ordered that
Ortiz be detained pending
trial,then issued an order for
medical treatment, noting that
he was probably in withdrawal.
And, as Inner City Press the
lone media in the Mag Court
saw, that did appear to be the
case.
The case is US v.
Ortiz, 21-mj-8993 (Wang)
