SDNY COURTROOM
Exclusive, Sept 20 –
In the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York on September 17, a
detention hearing was held by
Magistrate Judge Ona T. Wang
on defendant Ruddy Then, a
truck driver charged with
distributing narcotics.
Then's
case was not yet available in
PACER; he had a retained
lawyer. The US Attorney's
Office reached an agreement to
free him on bond, $50,000,
with release that night. It
stood in contrast to the case
that came before, in which
addicted Albert Ortiz was
detained for 68 bundles of
heroin in his apartment.
Ortiz' lawyer
said Ortiz is
an addict, who
sells to feed
his habit.
Judge Wang ordered
that Ortiz be detained pending
trial,then issued an order for
medical treatment, noting that
he was probably in withdrawal.
And, as Inner City Press the
lone media in the Mag Court
saw, that did appear to be the
case.
This case
is US v. Then, 21-mj-8924
(Wang).
