SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Aug 27 – Alexander Finley was
criminally charged as part of
a narcotics conspiracy in
October 2015. By December 8,
2015 a "sealed document [was]
placed in the vault."
On August
27 there was listed in the
docket another sentencing of
Finley, by U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge Richard M.
Berman.
It was
publicly listed and Inner City
Press covered it.
The
specifications for the
Violations of Supervised
Release, to which Finley was
on the line to plead guilty,
involved gunpoint robbery of a
marijuana dealer in New
Rochelle, purchase and use of
counterfeit $100 bills and
drug use.
Finley's lawyer,
the same one since 2015,
referred to another case
against his client before SDNY
White Plains-based Judge
Karas, with a September 10
court date.
It became
clear that Finley was, and
perhaps is, a cooperator. He
was given a 24 month sentence,
but to run concurrent with
whatever Judge Karas imposes
(this was said to have a floor
of 84 months).
Still, the
CJA defense counsel urged that
it be further reduced to nine
months. This was not done -
but, strangely given that it
was a publicly announced
proceeding, the formal
transcript was deemed
sealed.
Inner City Press
is voluntarily leaving out
certain details, but notes
that the DOJ's decision to go
easy, on after arising violent
crimes, in deference to
previous cooperation should be
subject to scrutiny by the
press and public.
This case is US
v. Finley, 15-cr-288 (Berman)
