Ignition Switch Litigation But Must Pursue
Documents First

SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 14 – Sylvia Garcia was
one of many who sued General
Motors for its ignition
switches. On August 6, 2020
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge James L. Cott
held a proceeding. Inner City
Press covered it.
Garcia, pro se, did not
appear. Judge Cott to his
credit directed GM to order
and email the transcript to
Garcia, and committed to put a
notation in the docket, which
he did, saying that Garcia
"has until September 4 to
provide either the missing
information identified on the
record to the 'New GM,' or
alternatively to seek further
relief from the Court."
On
September 24, Judge Furman
held another proceeding in the
case, this time on an
anticipated bid for the
reinstatement of plaintiff
Megan Hancock and New GM's
arguments that claims are
barred by the statute of
repose. Inner City Press again
covered it, and will continue
to.
And so: on April
14, 2021, Judge Furman held a
proceeding about New GM
claimant Norma Robinson. He
declined to grant lawyer Brett
Emison's application for a
protective order, but also
ruled that he does not have to
be deposed at this point.
First, New GM will get
documents, and depose Norma
Robinson.
