SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Sept 2 – Valdez Simmons was
indicted as a felon in
possession of a firearm on
June 6, 2020 - in the midst of
the Coronavirus pandemic.
Since then
questions have been raised
about the composition of the
semi-virtual grand juries
used. Inner City Press has
covered this issue through US
v. Balde, and now in this
case.
On September 2,
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge P. Kevin Castel held a
proceeding with Simmons and
his Federal Defender.
It was agreed to
put the matter off until
November 18 pending further
disclosures about grand juries
in the Balde case.
This case is US
v. Simmons, 20-cr-294
(Castel)
