SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Jan 14 – Raymond Russell is
deaf but was not provided with
American Sign Language
interpretation for parole
hearings by the NYS Department
of Correction. He
sued.
On January
14, U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge Vernon S. Broderick
held a proceeding. Inner City
Press covered it.
DOCCS says
Russell has made a settlement
demand, "but at this time
Defendants are not inclined to
settle the matter."
Instead they
propose making a summary
judgment motion by February 1.
The case is
Russell, Jr. v. The State Of
New York et al., 18-cv-8543
(Broderick)
