SDNY COURTHOUSE,
March 24 – Rui Xiang Cai, a

from the US on May 10, 2001
after a felony
conviction.
Jump cut to 2019 when he was
arrested in Queens, New York
for promoting
gambling.
On March 24 U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Laura Taylor Swain held
a change of plea proceeding.
Inner City Press covered
it.
Rui
Xiang Cai pleaded guilty to
illegal re-entry. What was the
SDNY venue?
Well, after being
arrested in Queens in the
EDNY, he told ICE that he had
in the past week been in
Yonkers and Manhattan.
How one gets from
one to the other without
passing through The Bronx was
not answered.
He will be
sentenced on June 30.
The case is US v.
Cai, 20-cr-80 (Swain)
