SDNY COURTROOM
Exclusive, Jan 3 – In the U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
on the early afternoon of
January 3, a detention or
release proceeding was held by
Magistrate Judge Robert W.
Lehrburger on a defendant
facing a March 28 trial in a
multi-defendant narcotics
conspiracy case.
The
defendant, Maurice Womack, had
his assigned Criminal Justice
Act defense lawyer, and a
handwritten letter. Judge
Lehrburger offered him
condolences for the loss of
his wife but said that, under
18 USC 3148(b)(1)(b) he felt
compelled to order him
remanded.
Judge
Lehburger asked AUSA Li if
there is a pre-trial
conference before the assigned
District Judge, Alvin K.
Hellerstein. Apparently there
is not - none is in the docket
- but AUSA Li said that Judge
Hellerstein's courtroom deputy
had asked to know the outcome
of the detention hearing. The
outcome was detention,
followed by the entry of more
grand jury documents to be
signed.
Jump cut to
August 17, 2022, with Judge
Hellerstein sentenced Womack
to 42 months: "Minute Entry
for proceedings held before
Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein:
Sentencing held on 8/10/2022
for Maurice Womack (11) Count
1s. Deft. sentenced to 42
months; 5 years Supervised
release; $100 Special
Assessment; See judgment for
Special Conditions. Deft.
cont'd. remanded."
This case is US
v. Spearman, et al.
(Hellerstein / Lehrburger).
