SDNY COURTROOM
Exclusive, Jan 31 – In the
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
on January 31, a detention or
release proceeding was held by
Magistrate Judge Steward D.
Aaron on Cairo Contreras, who
after serving a year in state
prison was immediately brought
to the SDNY on January 28 for
illegal re-entry.
The
defendant's assigned Federal
Defender argued for his
release on bond, saying that
other than the Marshals, Court
Security Officer and court
staff, the only ones in the
Magistrates Court were his
family members. Not true - the
Press was there - but he had
at least eight supporters. And
there was no detainer, amid
talk of U visa.
Judge
Aaron after a break with Pre
Trial Services ordered
Contreras released on $75,000
bond.
The case,
still listed as sealed, is US
v. Contreras, 21-mj-3026
(Aaron)
