SDNY COURTROOM
Exclusive, Jan 31 – In the
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
on January 31, a detention or
release proceeding was held by
Magistrate Judge Steward D.
Aaron on a defendant who was
deemed in need of methadone
"forthwith."
The
defendant's assigned Criminal
Justice Act lawyer agreed to
detention on consent; the
Marshals urged him to give his
sweatshirt to his wife in the
gallery so it didn't get
thrown out.
He asked,
Which jail am I going to? Even
that wasn't clear: MDC in
Brooklyn, or Essex in New
Jersey. He asked, in Spanish,
when he would be back in
court. No answer: waived to
the 30th day.
Judge
Aaron accepted, as expected,
the detention on consent.
The case,
not listed yet in PACER / ECF,
is US v. Perez, 22-mj-965
(Aaron)
