SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Oct 15 – Emmanuel McKenzie was
part of a multi-defendant
narcotics conspiracy case in
2015. Now he is on supervised
release - and, at least as of
October 15, it's going better.
On October
8 U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Richard M. Berman held a
Supervised Release proceeding.
Inner City Press covered
it.
At first,
McKenzie did not call in.
When he did, he
explained he had phone
problems.
More, he
said that during the COVID
pandemic, no one from
Probation told him that he
should be calling in. He said
he came to 500 Pearl Street
and told, "Ms Hill is not here
right now," but was not told
to call in.
On the
other hand Judge Berman was
told that McKenzie does not
feel it is the right time to
look for a job, given COVID.
Some other judges
in the SDNY have reacted less
than positively to this. But
Judge Berman set another
conference for October 15.
Inner City Press
covered that as well. McKenzie
was more upbeat, saying he is
voluntarily continuing
counseling because it is good
to talk.
Probation
began to contest it, then let
it go. That's water under the
bridge, Judge Berman said,
congratulating McKenzie.
Another conference was set for
January 12, 2021.
The case is
US v. McKenzie, 15-cr-288
(Berman)
