Reynoso Wants Out of Jail To 1 of 2 Girlfriends But Judge Asks If There Is Community Pressure

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Sept 2 – Pedro Reynoso, detained since July on drug charges, has repeated sought to be released on bond.

On September 2 U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Denise L. Cote held a proceeding. Inner City Press covered it.

Reynoso's lawyer Guy Oksenhendler sounded frustrated; Judge Cote told him to keep his volume down.

The issue revolved around Reynoso having listed two different girlfriends as placed he could stay. Pre-Trial Services expressed scepticism that one of the two knew the defendant's full situation.

Judge Cote went further, asking Pre-Trial to interview the woman, make sure she is on the lease of the apartment and ascertain if she is under "community pressure" to take Reynoso in.

Oksenhendler asked that a next hearing date be set, saying he has a right to an on the record ruling.

Judge Cote countered that a hearing will be held if necessary, that she could simply rule on the application. Pre-Trial Services' letter is due in a week.

The case is USA v. Reynoso-Hiciano et al., 20-cr-388 (Cote)
