SDNY MAG COURT
EXCLUSIVE, August 5 - In
the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York on August 5, a detention
or release proceeding was held
by Magistrate Judge Katharine
H. Parker on a defendant
charged with selling crack, in
an indictment that accuses
co-defendants of murder.
Risk
of flight was argued,
referring to a missed court
appearance in Pennsylvania.
One reason given for that was
that the defendant had himself
been shot. The AUSA replied,
but he was caught on video
again selling crack not long
after that.
The
defendant was ordered released
on $25,000 bond, but was
directed not to go within 10
blocks of Vernon and Lewis
Avenues. Earlier another
co-defendant, also not named
in the murder court, consented
to detention via the day's
Criminal Justice Act counsel.
Inner City Press was the only
media in the Mag Court for
these proceedings as on the
July 29 Azerbaijan AK-47
stalker of an Iranian
dissident (story here,
credited here).
The overall case
is US v. Samuels, et al., 21-cr-424
(Kaplan / Parker)
