SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Nov 27 – Juan Vargas was
charged in 2017 with
conspiracy to impersonate
police officers to commit a
robbery of narcotics in The
Bronx. On
July 12, 2018, there was a
"sealed document held in
chambers." On January 1, 2019,
there was a "sealed document
placed in vault."
On
September 17 U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Jesse M. Furman held his
sentencing. Inner City Press
covered it.
It emerged
in the public proceeding that
immediately after being
presented in the SDNY
Magistrates Court on October
4, 2017, Vargas went down the
hall to the US Attorney's
Office to
cooperate.
On
September 17, the US
Attorney's Office lavish
praise on Vargas. Judge Furman
sentenced him to time served,
and directed the lawyer to
suggested redactions to
portions of the transcript (at
least not the entire
transcript, as happened
elsewhere in the SDNY later in
the day).
The case is US v.
Vargas, 17-cr-592
(Furman)
