SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Nov 3 –
Quashon
Burton has
been a
fugitive for a
year on
charges of
COVID relief
loan fraud.
He
was arrested
in Orlando -
at Disney
World no less
- but then
released on
bond by a
Magistrate
Judge of the
U.S. District
Court for the
Central
District of
Florida.
The US
Attorney's
Office for the
Southern
District of
New York
appealed to
SDNY District
Judge Lewis A.
Kaplan, who
held a
proceeding on
November 3
which Inner
City Press
covered.
The
prosecutor
said Burton is
clearly a risk
of flight, who
has offered no
explanation of
his use of
false
identities
while in
Disney
World.
The
defense took a
perhaps
understandably
minimalist
approach.
Judge Kaplan
overruled the
Central
District of
Florida
Magistrate
Judge, and has
ordered Burton
remanded to
custody
pending trial.
The
case is USA v.
Burton,
21-cr-791
(Kaplan)
