SDNY COURTHOUSE,
July 8 – Jaleel Shakur is
charged with being a felon in
possession of a firearm, to
wit, a loaded .25-caliber
Beretta pistol.
On
July 7, U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Chief Judge Laura
Taylor Swain held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
Shakur's
Federal Defender was arguing
for release on bond, while
acknowledging Shakur if
released might go directly
into state custody.
The Assistant US
Attorney described a June 3
shooting, in the head, linked
to Shakur's gun.
It was on
the sidewalk in front of 82
West 165th Street in The
Bronx. An ATF NIBIN Lead
Notification was proffered,
Ibix Trax HD2D Matchpoint,
comparing the cartidge
casings.
The Federal
Defender questioned the
connection. Judge Swain
continued Shakur's detention.
The case is
US v. Shakur, 21-cr-425
(Swain)
