SDNY MAG COURT
EXCLUSIVE, March 30- In
the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York on March 30, a detention
or release proceeding was held
by Magistrate Judge Sarah L.
Cave on man arrested on a
Violation of Supervised
Release in an SDNY case. He
was arrested in February in
New Jersey and only
transferred across the Hudson
in late March.
Inner City
Press covers the SDNY
Magistrates Court, sometimes
alone in the gallery, as it
was on March 30. Defendant
Khalif White was assigned the
duty CJA lawyer, who put up an
energetic argument for release
on bond.
It succeeded.
Judge Cave asked why
Probation, in this case in
EDNY, had not gone to White's
house when he was out of
touch, rather than just
seeking an arrest warrant. She
asked, Why aren't we helping
people?
In
ordering White released -
after another night in
detention pending installation
of the GPS bracelet - Judge
Cave said, No more joy riding
in New Jersey. No more guns or
running from the police. White
said, Yes.
The case is US v.
White, 18-cr-364 (Gardephe /
Cave)
