Man Who Wrote In From Jail For Free Copies Of His Plea Deal Gets Adjournment in SDNY

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Sept 3 – Derrick Franks from in Schuylkill FCI jail wrote to U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Valerie E. Caproni in 2017, asking for copies of his docket sheet, plea agreement, sentencing transcripts and judgement.

On September 3 he appeared in person before Judge Caproni, relocated to Courtroom 518 in 40 Foley Square. Judge Caproni asked, How are you feeling?   Nervous, he said.

Judge Caproni told him to relax. She proposed not arraigning him on Violations of Supervised Release but instead waiting six months.

Probation counter-proposed 90 days, just to make sure things are improving. Judge Caproni agreed.

The case is US v. Franks, 16-cr-00372 (Caproni)
