SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 13 – Francisco Lora had
been set to plead guilty to
narcotics charges on March 28,
2014. But he did not show
up.
On April 13
in the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York, Judge Richard J.
Sullivan held a proceeding.
Inner City Press covered
it.
Judge
Sullivan, now on the Second
Circuit Court of Appeals, had
been the District Judge back
in 2014. Now he wanted to know
why Lora's bond had not in
fact been
forfeited.
Lora was arrested
in January 2021 in Puerto
Rico. But by February 22, he
had not been transported to
the SDNY.
Inquiry was made
with the U.S. Marshals. And
now, Lora is in custody in New
York.
Judge
Sullivan asked the US
Attorney's Office to explain,
too, why it has not added bail
jumping to the charges against
Lora (while acknowledging he
does not usually ask the
Government about its charging
decisions).
The AUSA agreed
to respond.
Lora has a
new court date May 10 and was
told, that will be either to
set a trial date or to
schedule a guilty plea.
The case is US v.
Lora, 13-cr-817 (Sullivan)
