SDNY MAG COURT
EXCLUSIVE, May 12 - In
the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York on May 12, a detention or
release proceeding was held by
Magistrate Judge Katharine H.
Parker on a man who requested
protective custody - that is,
solitary confinement.
Troy
Campbell was approached by
police on a bus in Washington
Heights in Upper Manhattan on
May 9. According to the
complaint, Campbell then told
the officers he was going to
"smack the sh*t out of you."
He was
taken in for mental assessment
at Columbia University Medical
Center at 3985 Broadway.
There, on a gurney, he reached
in his waistband for a gun,
a.38 caliber Smith &
Wesson revolver.
He was
arrested, and when it emerged
he had previously been
convicted of a gun felony, in
the Bronx in 2013, the case
was Federalized.
Campbell's
only-for-presentment Criminal
Justice Act lawyer consented
to detention then made the
request for solitary
confinement. The AUSA said he
could help with that.
This case is US
v. Campbell, 22-mj-4207
(Parker)
