Marshals Pursuing Individual 1 Found Drug Mill So Apartment Owner Detained Until Inspection

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Maxwell Book
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY MAG COURT EXCLUSIVE, Sept 16 -  In the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on September 16, a series of detention or bond proceedings were held by Magistrate Stuart D. Aaron. Inner City Press was there, the only media in the Mag Court.

The U.S. Marshals pursuit of "Individual-1" for having cut off his location monitor bracelet lead them to an apartment that was, in fact, a drug mill.

The owner of the apartment, addressed by Judge Aaron as Diaz Mata (but by his retained counsel with the names reversed) had been left out in the hallway of the apartment building during the arrest of Individual-1. He went into another apartment, that the AUSA implied might be an attempt to flee.

Judge Aaron did not credit that, but conditioned the release on $50,000 bond of Diaz Mata on a home inspection by Pre-Trial Services on Monday or at latest Tuesday. A co-defendant was released on September 16. His hard-working CJA counsel ensured he can continue with his cleaning job in Wayne, New Jersey.

Notably, the name of Individual-1 was never given in open court, although it was shown one of the three defense lawyers.

The case is US v. Diaz Mata, 22-mj-7574 (Aaron)
