SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 23 – Edwin Ruiz is on
Federal supervised release
following a narcotic
conviction.
Now he has
charged with a violation of
supervised release involving
marijuana, which is now legal
in New York State.
On April
23 in the U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York, Judge Richard J.
Sullivan (now on the Second
Circuit Court of Appeals) had
a violation of supervised
release proceeding. Inner City
Press covered it.
Judge Sullivan asked about the
marijuana edibles that Ruiz is
charged with, and asked that
the specifications or charges
be updated regarding them.
Ruiz'
lawyer noted that marijuana is
now legal in New York; Judge
Sullivan pointed out that it
is not legal at the Federal
level.
But
unenforced, defense counsel
said. For mere possession.
Certainly
not unenforced for selling
marijuana, while on supervised
release, was the retort. The
specifications will be
updated.
The case is US v.
Ruiz, 11-cr-676 (Sullivan)
