SDNY MAG COURT
EXCLUSIVE, Oct 5 - In
the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York on October 5, a detention
or bond proceedings was held
by Magistrate Judge Sarah L.
Cave. Inner City Press was
there, the only media in the
Mag Court.
The
defendant was Ramel Bain, who
while on supervised release
has charged with stabbing a
man on a New York City subway
platform. The state charges
were pled down to
misdemeanor and 364 days
served - after which Bain was
quickly brought into Federal
custody on the violation of
supervised release.
Bain
had previously avoided
imprisonment on a violation of
supervised release, with now
Second Circuit Judge Alison J.
Nathan citing COVID and MDC
jail conditions to give him
another chase. Now, the AUSA
said, the chance had been
wasted.
Bain's
Federal Defender offered GPS
location monitoring and a
$50,000 personal recognizance
bond, with no suretors.
Judge Cave
declined to free Bain on bond.
His next appearance is set for
November 2.
The case is US v.
Bain, 15-cr-619 (Crotty /
Cave)
