SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 5 – Samuel Saunders had
a jury trial set for June 7 on
the charge of being a felon in
possession of ammunition. Then
it got moved up to May 5.
On April 5, U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Lorna G. Schofield held
a proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
Judge Schofield denied two DOJ
motions in limine, to
introduce details about
Saunders' past conviction for
criminal possession of a
weapon and an alleged separate
weapons transaction.
Both sides
had questions about the trial
in a month. Where will it be
held? Courtroom 318 in 40
Foley Square.
Judge Schofield told the
lawyers they could go check it
out, though if a trial was
ongoing there, they would have
to arrange to touch the
equipment. (Later on April 5
at 3 pm, the doors to all six
large courtroom on the 26th,
24th and 23rd floors of 500
Pearl Street were
locked).
Now long
might jury selection take?
Judge Schofield said her
practice is to do the voir
dire in the morning,
peremptory challenges over
lunch, and opening argument
and one or two witnesses in
the afternoon. The prosecutors
said they will be ready.
The case is US v.
Saunders, 19-cr-679
(Schofield)
