SDNY COURTHOUSE,
June 4 – On November 5, 2016
Darryl C. Potter was thirty
minutes late to a movie at AMC
theater on 34th Street.
According to a complaint he
filed, theater security
incorrectly assumed that
Potter, "who is a black male,
was a criminal trying to smeak
into the theater." A
nightmarish series of events
ensued, and a lawsuit.
On June 4
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge Katharine H.
Parker held a telephonic
proceeding. Inner City Press
called in to cover it. Judge
Parket asked, Who just joined
the call? Inner City Press
identified itself and was put
on mute.
By call's
end, the negotiator for NYCHHC
was asking Potter to convey a
settlement offer, emphasizing
the problems HHC the Health
and Hospitals Corporation is
in. Judge Parker emphasized,
This is a public line. So they
arranged to speak off-line.
The case is
Potter v. The City of New
York, et al., 17-cv-8503
(Liman / Parker).
